Breakfast - the most important meal for weight loss?

Yesterday I wrote briefly about 10 simple weight loss hacks anyone can do.

Reflecting on the post I thought I would spend some time breaking things down a bit point by point,

So hopefully some of you find this of use

Is breakfast the most important meal of the day for weight loss?

Does it make any difference at all?

I don’t know about you but I was brought up with the belief- NEVER LEAVE THE HOUSE WITHOUT EATING BREAKFAST

I shudder to think what would happen if I did ;)

Have breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a pauper.

But does this have any effect on our weight loss.

Well according to the research that compares groups that eat breakfast and groups that choose to skip it, it makes no difference on weight loss.

Ultimately our body weight is determined by how much we eat in relation to how much we expend on average.

Timings have very little impact on how this plays out from a physiological point of view. It can however impact on hunger levels and possibly lead to poorer choices.

One quick way to put on extra body weight is to eat when not hungry. If you are one of those busy people in the morning, rushing out the house and do not feel hungry – then please do not force down breakfast.

Rather wait until you are hungry and it’s a convenient time to have a healthy meal and break your overnight fast.

Conversely if you do wake up hungry then tuck in to a healthy breakfast.

Just remember if weight loss is your goal, the more you eat early on in the day the less there is for the evening.

Most of the worlds research on breakfast is sponsored by our good friends at Kellogg’s so there is a certain degree of bias when looking at things that point to its benefit for weight loss.

So when you see claims about breakfast being important for almost anything be an open minded sceptic about where the information is coming from and what is the ned goal.

On a practical note, try have your biggest meals when you feel your hungriest regardless of what the time is.
